Several Inspiring Ideas for Garden Pallet Furniture
Pallet furniture has been in fashion for some time now and for good reason. First of all, wooden pallets are extremely cheap. Secondly, they are durable, yet lightweight. You can make any type of furniture using wooden pallets since they are so versatile. If the furniture gets damaged, it can be repaired without difficulty. Finally, pallets can be recycled and turning pallets into the furniture is repurposing, meaning that we are one step closer to sustainability.
Since you will need a mattress for the daybed, pick the mattress first and then choose the dimensions of the bed. You will need two wooden pallets. Firstly, sand them with an orbital sander. When you are done and no splinters are seen, attach two pallets together using a drill and tighten them with nuts, washers and a screw wrench. You can also install casters. The base of the daybed is made, so the last thing you need to do is attach arms using pipes and flanges. You can also paint the daybed.
Moveable coffee table
As with the daybed, pick two pallets and adjust the desired height. Sand them with an orbital sander. Attach four legs on the top corners of the first pallet using L-brackets, then attach the second pallet on the first one also using L-brackets. Install four casters. Paint the coffee table in the desired colour. Mix and match the colours so that they complement the pallet daybed.
For the planter, you will need one piece taken directly from industrial pallet racking. Sand the pallet to remove splinters. Paint each slat of the pallet in a different colour. If you are using acrylic paint, you can apply a layer of varnish for extra protection. In a hardware store, find worm clamps, round metal pieces, which can be wrapped around the flower pot. Drill the hole in each worm clamp and into the pallet and attach the worm clamp to the pallet. Tighten them with screws. Place your flower pots into the worm clamps.
Measure the mattress and then choose the size and the number of pallets you will use. Attach the pallets together using nuts, washers and a screw wrench. Now you have the base of the swing bed. Drill holes into the four corners of the base, including the top and bottom planks. Thread the rope through the holes of the swing bed and tighten the swing bed to the tree. Add the mattress.
Find two wooden beams you will attach to the wall. Measure the beams in order to decide where you want to put shelves. Dismantle a wooden pallet using a nail puller. Sand both the beams and the planks. Cut the planks so that you have the supporter for the shelves. Attach the supporters to the beams using screws. When the supporters are done, attach the shelves to the supporters. You can decorate the beams using a striping paint technique. Finally, place flower pots on the shelves.
Pick one big pallet and dismantle the planks using a nail puller. Choose the planks for the base, the two sides, the rear side and the front fascia. Sand the planks. Measure the pieces and cut them using a measuring tape, a carpenter’s pencil and a circular saw. Attach the pieces together by adding the plank on the underside. You can use nails, or screws.
You do not need to have the experience of the advance woodworker to make these pieces of furniture. The DIY projects are simple and can be done in a couple of hours. All you need is a little bit of imagination.
